Hong seemed to take the door. Kong seems to be full of new faces just now, as there appears to have been several changes all round. It was sad saying good-bye to our friends in the Kent, as is usually the case after they have been out here for some time, but they were enthusiastic certainly given | send-on. There was such a crowd that it is quite impossible to men- tion half the names, but I caught sight of Mrs. Bishop looking ex- tremely smart in black and white with one of the very latest of hats on. The Rockingham Gills were over from Stonecutters-one- doesn't see the Stonecutter people very much really, they seem to live in a little world of their Mrs. Brookshort, very pretty 12 black and white, looked well after her holiday, also her husband seems to have recovered com- pletely. The Browns, back from their trip to Japan, seemed in great form having had a lovely time. The Abbotts were there, also the Rees: the Sterling Hamilton's. the Jenks and practically the rest of the Colony. Quite half the later to party or more seemed migrate to the Hong Kong Hotel which was very gay and everybody in the best of spirits all the even- ing.

The USS. Canopus arrived in the Colony on Friday for a stay of only a few days en route to Manila, and Captain Coltart and the Officers of the Medway were the hosts at an extremely good party" on board the Medway on Friday evening. The weather was kind and gave them a perfect night, and the party was held on the deck which was gaily decorated with small lights and flags. The ritual was cocktails and a buffet supper on board first, then later the party moved to the Roof Gar- den of the Hong Kong Hotel where dancing continued until the small hours, eggs and bacon being served at the end. There was an enorm→ · ous crowd up there which was con

the tinually being swelled by crowds from downstairs who came up for more dancing after the band had stopped below. The ladies appeared to be kept very busy with the dancing, and seemed to have no time to sit at all, some were

changing partners even middle of the dance door not be. ing allowed to return to the table moment." It was a great for a shame the American wives were not able to arrive in time for the Party their boat being a day late. Several people from the Halloween Dinner arrived later in the even- Irig, amongst them "Tiny" Munroe in his national dress.
