CHANGE IN TITLE

Bill To Be Introduced In Legislative Council

·DIRECTOR OF MEDICAL SERVICES”

An orainance to give exfect to' the change in name and style of the offices hitherto known as those of Director of Medical and Sanitary Services ana Deputy Director of Medical and Sanitary Services, will be introduced at the Legiziative Counell, according to a draft bill published In the Government Gazette.

The bill is being introduced at the request of the secretary of State in order to preserve unl- formity in the nomenclature of scheduled posts of the Colonial Medical Services. The new offices will be known and styled respec- vely as "The Director of Medical Services" and "The Deputy Director of Medical Services."

The ordinance to bring this into effect will be cited as the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services (change of name) ordinance, 1938. It is made quite clear that nothing in the ordinance will be deemed to Involve an abolition of office or to affect the powers, duties or respon- abilities attached to any office whereof the title has been chang- ed.

A meeting in memory of the late, Mr. Lo Sun, a famous writer in the history of modern Chinese literature, was held by the Hong Kong University Union yesterday in the Fung Ping Shan Library.

Members and friends

of the Union who attended the meeting paid obeisance to a photograph of Mr. Lo Sun and observed three minutes' silence,, after which Mr. Ma Kiam delivered a speech on "The Life of Mr. Lo Sud This was followed by a lecture by Pro- fessor Hsu Ti-shan on "Mr. Lo Sun's contribution to Chinese Literature."

Sub-Inspector L. Mist of the Hong Kong Police, was taken to

the Kowloon Hospital yesterday. his condition. being stated to be very serious.

He was taken ill in the afternoon while setting out in a motor car.

The November Race Meeting of the Macao Jockey Club was held in dividends Macao yesterday and were kept fairly low except in the Kwangchow Handicap which paid 16:10, $12.30 and $23.40 for places. The weather was excellent and a

dry track favoured the ponies.

The events were mostly closily run and the fields were bunched except at the finish.

SUICIDE ATTEMPT

Bome excitement was caused, on the Star ferry launch Night Star shortly before.11 p.m., on the trip - from Kowloon to Hong Kong, when -a Chinese male attempted to com- ̃mit suicide by jumping into the harbour. He was rescued by a sea- man and subsequently sent to the Kowloon Hospital.
