ADMIRAL'S CAREER

BISHOP OF

NANKING

To Visit Colony Next Month

The news has recently reached Hong Kong that the new Bishop of Nacking will visit the Colony In January. This is Mgr. Yu Pin, one of the most interesting figures } in the Catholic Church in China."

thirty-five Though he is only years of age, Mgr. Yu Pin has al- ready bad 1 very remarkable career. He has been professor in Rome, member of a Papal dele- gation to Abyssinia, and General Director of Catholic Action for the whole of China. He holds several University degrees. As well as being a graduate of the Aurora University, Shanghai. he received the Doctorate in Theology from the Academy of St. Thomas in Rome, and a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Perugia.

He enjoys considerable repute as a Chinese scholar and was the recipient of many honours from official bodies when he was con- secrated Bishop a few months ago.

POPPY DAY FUND

Statutory allowances, to which unemployed persons arc-entitled, are much improved to-day, but during long or frequent periods of unemployment many ex-Service con-men have no opportunity of pro- viding reasonable, necessities for either themselves or their families, and it is when such needs are urgent that they lose confidence and become despondent. To meet such cases 25 these, occasional assistance is given for food, cloth- Ing. or bedding, and the amount issued under this scheme during last year amounted to £140,994.

Of chief significance is the fact that the new Commander--Chief, Admiral H. & Yarnell, will be here on his frst visit.
