The Golden Jubilee of the Fairlea C, M. S. School was cele- brated yesterday in dual connection with the Graduation Day of the Lower Middle and Higher Primary Schools, when Mrs. Chennt Wing Kul, the Headmistress, gave a comprehensive survey of the school's activities and growth from a small starting 50 years ago.
There was a large number of parents and friends present to join in the felicitations. Among those present were: Mr. G. R. Sayer (Director of Education) The Hon. Mr. S. W. Ts'o, the Rev. and Mrs. E W. L. Martin (Headmaster of St. Stephen's Boys' College) and many others.

SCHOOL'S HISTORY Addressing those present, the, Headmistress, said:
Today we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary, the Lower Mid- dle School and the Higher Primary School Graduation Day, We are most fortunate in having Mrs. Fok Ching Sham to come to distribute the certificates for us, and in the name of the School I offer her our hearty welcome. We also thank all our friends for taking so great an interest in our welfare in com- ing to us this afternoon.
In 1886 our School was started by Miss Johnstone who was born in Tasmania, and her father served in the 100th Regiment which afterwards was transferred to In- dia, where later her mother died. Her father them came to Hong Kong and Miss Johnstone accom- panied him. During her childhood she was a great friend of Miss Harriet Baxter and under her in-
fluence she became an enthusiastic missionary. At first the School was situated in West End Terraca and was

School for boarders and for day girls, many of whom came from Christian homes. Later, seeing that it was such a good school, many non-Christians sent their children to be educated there. Miss Johnstone taught them the love of Christ and helped them to follow the footsteps of the ancient

The exhibition of paintings in oils and water colours which opens to-morrow on the 1st Hoor, Gloucester Building, is the work of twp artists. Mr. Yee Bon and Mr. Lee Byng. They are both Gradu- utes of the Ontario College of Art. Toronto, where Mr. Yes Bon, in particular. distinguished and won prizes and scholarships as fast as they were offered. The exhibition is one of outstanding merit and all those who are in- terested in art should make a point of visiting it.
