Clothes By Lucien Lelong

And

Lucien Lelong has just shown his "robes d'edition" or ready-to- wear clothes. They include several rabbit brown tweeds flecked with red and green; there are also beige and bronze green wollens. The akirts are either straight, with deeply Inverted pleats back front, or divided. The jackets have broad revers which can be buttoned high to the throat; when worn open they show a bright blouse or a folded scari. Many of the blouses are made of brightly coloured tle silk or brightly knit- ted or crocheted wool..

For mornings and informal af- ternoons there are woollen dresses with coats of different lengths: they have high necklines. Clau- and., dine collars,

.bright belts. Many of them are ribbed sunray patterns about the shoul- ders, and the bodice fronts have cross-way ribbings or ribbings which in other ways also make them shapely. The coats of three- quarter length fit loosely and are straight across the shoulders. Long and more formal coats fit closer and have high astrakhan or be- a Bver of fox collars. None of these coats 'shows the Directoire, line: the long, straight line with moder- ately square shoulders is preferred.

Formal afternoon dresses to be worn under tur or fur-trimmed black cloth coats have skirts which are full in front and elbow-length sleeves; the materials are crêpe marocain and similar crape, either coloured or black with coloured Arimmings. On the black or dark. dresses colour is inset at the neck; belts are piped with colour or de- corated in front with bright suède applications. One black dress has star-shaped Insets or gold lamé at the neck and a lamé band round the throat; the elbow sleeves end ́ with the same trimming. Another black dress has bright green in- sets. Royal blue is allied to violet- pink, and petunia purple is sn- other colour,

For the evening Lelong now and then puts black satin and black velvet together in one dress. His black evening dresses are touched mostly with petunia purple or tur- quolse blue or green. The dresses, not too tight anywhere, ft the hips and fall full about the knees and feet. On some of them bands of colour trim the hem, line. A black crêpe marocain, dress has a petunia purple crêpe band; another has a bright green one. A black velvet dress has net shoulders and a net band round the skirt above the hem, which is trimmed with little Louis V baws of pale rose ana time green satin. A pale rose dress, almost white, is made of crêpe satin, the dull and the shiny sides of which run in bands verti-

cally. Chenille shoulders are put

on dinner dresses with full elbow sleeves. A black crêpe dress has a black velvet bodice and three- quarter cape. the 'high collar of which is faced with turquoise velvet. Two picture dresses are of brown and navy blue tañetas. A many-coloured coat is made of closely worked beads and sequins.

New Kinds Of Shoes

Dress materials influence . fas- hions in shoes, which are now matched up very carefully both for day and evening to give a har monious colour scheme. Evening shoes are now made in * great variety of dress materials and grow more ornate and intricate in design.

The fashion for lacquered sa- tins for evening gowns has caused some of the new evening sandals to be made in hand-lacquered cire satin, and a neat shoe of this kind has a high T-strap, with the fashionable open bands and a closed toe-cap. Gold and sliver kid are used for both sandals and

•Court shoes for wearing with me- tal brocades. Suver id in nai- row bands forms sandal laked with a narrow plait of gold kid. Gold kid with an elaborate cut- out design like a flower on the vamp makes a pretty Court shoe. Coloured metal brocades and gold and silver leather ornamented in colour are used for other san- dals. Gold and silver kid are used to trim many of the handsome shoes for wearing with velvet evening gowns. "

There is also on both evening and day shoes a reversible strap on a swivel which can change the appearance of the shoe. On a red satin evening shoe the reverse is stitched gold kid; on a brown suede shoe trimmed with leather. the reverse is crocodile, and on a navy suede court shoe the strap could be reversed in navy patent of calf. Endless variety can be achieved by this device.

Heels for evening shoes are be- Ing made slightly higher, but those who do not like the very high heel can find equally good shoes with beels to suit the balance of the foot. An open-waisted effect at the sides is being used in many shoes both for day and evening: it is becoming to the line of the foot and is also easy to wear.

More colour is being worn i day shoes owing to the habit of matching frucks and coats in ac- cessories. Green, which until now was rarely worn in out-of-door shoes. is now a shoe colour, and' dark green and dark burgundy shoes are being worn out of doors. Blue, brown, and black shoes, however, predominate. A new suede shoe for out of doors has a xide fastening made like a miniature sword Bide fastenings are grow- ing in favour and are seen also in tle shoes,
