"I regret that this matter has occurred. I ask the court for leniency in my case otherwise iny family will be destitute." words were uttered by a coolie, Ng Ping, who appeared before Mr. Q. AMA. Macfadyen at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday afternoon on a charge of uttering false noves. The prisoner pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court to allow him a few minutes with his wife before they took him away. This favour was granted and the accused was ordered to stand for criminal committal at the next Session.

Expert witnesses were called to identify the banknotes, Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank and a $5 Chartered Bank note. Replying to Mr. Macfadyen, botn witnesses declared that the for geries were bad ones where experts were concerned but that a layman might easily be deceived by them.
