revealed that, at 10.30 3.m. on September 27, the accused went to a shop in Boundary Street and asked to buy a small piece of wood for 31 20. He tendered a $10 note of the new issue and received $8.80 In change from the shopkeeper. The next day he went to buy rice and tendered another $10 note.

The shopkeeper recognised the man and immediately sent his Joki to buy some cigarettes with the note. The foki returned and told his master that the note was a forgery and the latter thereupon haled a passing policeman who arrested the accused and brought him to the Shamshuipo Police Station.

The latest edition to the fleet of fast freignters for the Nippon Yusen Kaisha Horta Europe Line, wh.ch was

Kasil Maru last May, the N.Y.K.- owned motor ship Akagi Maru ar- rived in Hong Kong yesterday morning and berthed at the Kow- loon Waart. The vessel was be- flagged.
The Akagi Mary was on he ma den voyage to Europe and is eaving for Hamburg, via ports. this morning.
With a speed of 19 knots, the Akagi Maru has & deadweight capacity of 9,400 tons and was built at the Nagasaki Shipyard and Engine Works. The keel was lald in December, 1915. She was launched n June last and was compiered last month.

Her length is 140 metres, breadth 19 metres, depth 10 50 metres and draught of 8.35 metres Her gross tonnage is 7,367 tons.

London, Oct. 15. The King has approved the creation of the office of Chief Corps of Royal Engineer of the Royal" Engineers and of the ap- pointment thereto of General · Bir Bindon Blood. Colonel Comman- dant of the Royal Engineers. The creation of the office of Chief Ro- yal Engineer restores to the Royal Engineers the old military ap- pointment originally styled Chief Engineer of the Kingdom which existed from the restoration down to its abolition in 1808. The holder of the appointment is head of the Corps.-
