"PROBLEM OF SPACE
Solution By Giant Telescope
SIR JAMES. JEANS' HOPE
Sir James Jeans, in a public leo- turo at Southport recently, made the announcement that the new 900 inch telescope," now being built in California, might solve the pro- blem of whether space was curved and finite, or was infinite,
He declared that Sir Arthur Ed. dington, by very complicated mathematics, now hoped that ho had carried through to a successful issue the computation of the mass and radius of the universe.
Asking the question, "How big is spaco Sir James said that the theory of relativity told us that space was curved, and that it cur ved back into itself, so that the total volume was finite,"
like the total area of the earth.

But if we could not re the boundary of space, we could try to fix its positron by theoretical argu- ments.

POPULAR SPORT
Log-Rolling Display At London Gala
There was a display of log rolling. at the General Electrio Bwimming! Club's gala at Holborn recently which made an appeal to gale organisers who sought a novelty feature for their programme, Log rolling in a popular sport amongst the Canadian lumber-jacks, draw- ing big crowds and providing ex- citing competition.
The demonstrator, W. O. B. Bradborn, is a Canadian lumber-) jack residing in London, and he certainly gave a good entertain- ment. His skill in balancing and controlling a log weighing half a ton is amazing, but it is not on ly a question of controlling the log, he is an outstanding aerobat with a highly developed sense of balance. He uses the log as a base for hand- stands, somersaults, sod chair balancing, and his display starts with a flying leap from the bath side on to the log.
