Scion Of Well-Known

Chinese Family

Unparalleled scenes were witnessed at the Central Magistracy yesterday when an inquest into the circumstances attending the death of Ng Yun Fong, scion of a well-known local" Chinese family, who died after being found in the bedroom of a woman in a Kennedy Road flat on July 19 with severe stab wounds, was opened with Mr. W. Schofield äitting as Coroner.

A sensation was caused at the time among the local Chinese community when it became known that a woman was also found in the room with stab wounds.

The delayed airmail arrived yes- terday afternoon on the R.M.A. Dorado about half-an-hour before scheduled time. She carried a re- cord weight of 288.121 kilos of mail and 6.1 kilos freight.

FAMOUS MISSIONARY TO SPEAK HERE

Dr. Frank Laubach, Ph.D., has been a missionary to the Philip- pine Islands since 1915. In 1929 he started a literacy campaign among the illiterate Moslem Moros "of Lanao Province in the Southern part of the Philippines, and de- veloped a method by which a Moro can learn to read his own language In from one to three days.

Dr. Laubach has been asked to, help literates in every continent except Australasia and has made a world tour for that purpose. As he passes through. Hong Kong on September 18 he will be on his way to India for his second visit, hav- ing already prepared charts in. Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Two thirds of the billion illiter- ates of the world live in Asia, of whom 350,000,000 are in China and 340,000,000 in India. The remain- der are found chiefly in Africa, South America and the Islands of the Paclic,

Dr. Laubach is trying to do for the rest of the world's literates what Dr. James Yen and his col- leagues are doing for the illiterates of China. He brings, an inspiring personality and a rich fund of *practical idealism to his task.
