WORK WAS ENERGETICALLY COMMENCED YESTERDAY ON THE DAMAGED CROSS HARBOUR PIPE LINE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT EXPERTS. |

SECURED ALONGSIDE QUEEN'S ` PIER. ARE THE LIGHTER AND PONTOON WHICH HAVE BEEN TOWED FROM MACAU TO HONG KONG TO ASSIST IN "THE RE- PAIR WORK OF THE PIPE LINE ACROSS THE HARBOUR, WHICH WAS DAMAGED IN THE, RECENT TYPHOON.

The pontoon, square shaped, is equipped with two derricks set in the form of a triangle at the front of the boat, with pulleys suspended from the apex Steel cables run over the pulleys, and these are connected with two steam winches. The steam for these winches is generated in a boiler at the stern of the vessel.

An accessory to the pontoon is the lighter, also supplied with a crane for the unloading of the re- pats parts of the pipe, which are
