PHILIPPINE
SHARES ACTIVITY
Saturday," Aug. 22. Messrs. G. A. Harriman & Co's Weekly share report and market review issued at noon to-day states
A week of sparkling activity in both local and Philippine shares has kept brokers very busy and happy and we hope that clients too are cheerful), Early on in the week Manila stocks monopolised attention. but on Thursday and Friday local shares claimed their share of the business passing and by the close of the week, trading became very brisk, with an upward swing in a market somewhat re- miniscent of last January. A very firm close characterised the Hong- kong market and Mantia Riso finished up steady after several days of widely fluctuating quota- tions."
Among Hong Kong shares keen enquiries for Utilities raised the price of Electrics to $531, Tele- phones (old) to $271 and the "new" to $9. H K Trams came up to $12.30, Lights (old) steadily climbed to $12.30 but Star Ferries moved alowly

Hotels came, in for considerable attention and had a long delayed spurt to close $5.35 strong cash and $5.60 October buyers. Lands are wanted at $33† ex div and Realties $4.30. after sales at this. Wharves "made $100 and $101 and Docks $14. Providents (old) Improved again
and to $1.65 the new were bought at 10 ets. Dairy Farms are now 5211 bid and Watsons have several enquiries
$3.60 or offer, The miscellaneous list is without special feature.
MANILA BUSY
In
Philippine shares business has been fairly widely spread over all the popular descriptions, and quite a number of transactions have also to be recorded in several shares which are quoted among the "unlisted" stocks in the Manila Exchange, Suyoca, justified · our confidence and a big business. was done in this now popular share up to 80 cts. the closing quotations being 76 cts.-78 cts. Demonstra- tions are rather easler and cash and Settlement, shares are offered at something over $1.60 San Maurielos are around 53.05 and United Paracales $245. Big Wedge. Bagulos and Benguet Explorations are all under last week's closing 61 cts., 56 cts, and 42 cts. res- pectively. Consolidated Mines have had active exchanges at prices ranging from 9 cts. to 12 cts.-- closing @ 10 cts. (ex rights) buyers. Ipos' improved at one time to 43 cts. but had closing sales @ 40 cts. ex div, Faracale Gumaus fuc- tuated widely in Manila, at one time reaching 83 centavos but closing @ 70 centavos. However there has been little business done in this share locally.
