LA. Gutierrez, winner of the Open Championship title in 1933. yesterday defeated J. Shapherd in the Open Championship Competi- tion at the Kowloon Docks Re- creation Club green, by 21 shots 15. in a game which was featured by steady bowling by the winner and a last minute yet unavailng effort by the loser.

By virtue of his victory yester day, Gutierrez has entered the semi-final round, which is com- posed of the following players:

In yesterday's game. which ter- minated at the 18th head. Gutier rez le his opponent by twelve shots at the 15th head. the score being 20-8. Ha required only one shot for the game and the right to enter the semi-final round, but Shepherd staged a last-minute re- covary and for two further heads staved off defeat.

At the 16th Shepherd obtained a four by dint of superb bowling. At the next head he obtained a three, and excitement ran bigh when the eighteenth was played.

Both players ran up some good woods and with the game open. Gutierrez lay one wood to give him victory. Both men played well with Shepherd taking the longer to settle down on the green.
