GALORE AT HENDON

RADIO DESCRIPTION WHILE STUNTING
(Special Air Mail Service)
London, June 28.
The finest Air Force display in the seventeen years of the history of this great service was the general verdict yesterday at Hendon. The attendance appeared to be very slightly less than that of last year and the year be- fore. Apparently the organisers, fearing an unmanage able crowd, had deliberately adopted a less than usually vigorous publicity policy.
The great success of the display was certainly due not only to the Introduction of novel items in the Programme, but to the increased realism and liveliness imparted to old favourites. Actually, fewer squadrons and fewer aeroplanes than last year were engaged, Yet the results were decidedly more satisfying to the spectators.

CONTRASTED TYPES.
The programme opened at 12,30, and marly thousands had assem· bled three hours before to get good positions. The Arst event. the race between representatives, of the Air Ministry and of various head- quarters, was à great improvement or past years. With such widely Contrasted types as a "Tiger Moth." a "Fury," two “Gauntlet" fighters, a "Heyford" bomber and others, bandicapped according to estimat- ed speeds, the sporting, indeed the amusing, element overruled tech- sical interest.
Wing-Commander A. W. Myine. on a "Gauntlet" Aghter, repre- senting the Air Defence of Great Britain Command, starting last on handicap time, overtook all the others in a thirty miles race, came in first, and won the cup pre- sented by Air Chief Marshal & the Duke of York.

PLANES DIVE AT 300 M.PH
New Bombers' Feat
London, June 28 More than 220,000 people nearly dislocated their necks at Hendon yesterday, trying t keep peace with the 300 m.p.h. antics of R.A.F, pilots at their annual display.
•
Of these 150,000 paid to see the display from inside: 20,000 brought
their cars.
More than 70.000 watched from outside; four London boy's had walked ten miles to see the world's Anest pilots at work,
It was a big day for Britain -and official representatives of more than forty foreign countries knew it.
"
They saw new bombers and fighters built for Britain's expand- ed air force-machines capable of more than 300 mp.h. that made older machines look an slow as' bal- loons.

The great crowd also saw:- Air Skittles played by five heavy bomber pilots, who swooped dar- ingly low and bowled over glant skittles on the ground
A Raid by "Northland" attackers on a power sistlon defended by "Southland" pilota: in this members of the Auxiliary Air Force covered themselves with glory in a 300 a.p.h. bombing dive.
A 180.5 m.p.h. Victory for Wing- Commander A. W. Mylne for the Duke of York's Cup in the Head- quarters Race; the pilots had to complete two laps of a Afteen- müe course with Ave turning paints.
A "Novice" Flight by Flight- Lieutenant J. W. Donaldson, who made breath-taking "mistakes" to keep the crowd thrilled.
And no wonder that at the end Lord Swinton, Minister for Air, ..In the new medium bomber craft sent a "hearty congratulations" was the Bristol Blehelm I, a modi-message to Air Marshal Sir John fed version of the civil aeroplane Steel, commanding the "Air De- bulit for Lord Rochermere.
