OUR SCOTTISH LETTER

Gossip Of The Week

London. July 2, ¡ form Do you know a good Scottish joke? There's a man in Brussels

who collects

them. He paid for this advertisement in-aq "agony”: column to-day:

Joke collector would appre" clate best Scottish jokes.-White, Borowski, 23 Rue Capouillet. Brussels, Belgium.

I banged several saxpences

writes an "Evening News" repre-

sentative, in ringing up Barowski

to ask him whether he would ac- cept an English or an Irish joke instead.

"No." he replied, "they must be Scottish. I spent several months last year in Britain, and I got very appreciative of Scottish humour.

"In fact, when I got back'I star- ted collecting Scottish jokes. Al- ready I've got. 2.000 of them all

different. I keep them in books.

"I keep them for my own enter- tainment and for the enjoyment of my friends-one of whom hap pens to be a Scotsman

"I think Scottish jokes are the best in the world, although I can also appreciate others. I also think the Scottish people are very alce."

M. Borowski denied that he was a Scotsman himself but when I asked him how much he would pay for the jokes, he replied:

"Pay? Oh, no, I don't want to pay for them." Which seems to me to auggest that the joke is on Aberdeen.

EDINBURGH 'PRAYER' FOR '

"On behalf of the Corporation and citizens of Edinburgh. may I say that we rejoice with you in your latest entèrprise, and we sin-

cerely hope and pray that the sister ship of the Queen Mary will be bult and launched from your yards on Clydesde."

Lord "Aberconway and the Lord Provest of Edinburgh were guests at the centenary luncheon of, the Botanical Society of Edinburgh, a descripition of which is given in another column,
