Larger Bounties To Be Given

London, June 28. The Royal Naval Volunteer Re- serve is a force of officers and men, not scamen by profession, though many are yachtsmen, who volun- tarily trair themselves in naval work in their spare time, partly by "drills at local headquarters, part- ly by periods of training in ships of the Fleet and the naval instruc- tional establishments, so that it may be immediately available, for the Navy in the event of war.

Its total strength, which is now about 5,000 officers and men out of an establishment of 5.990, was augmented to 38,000 during the War, when it performed excellent service in all parts of the world, both afloat and ashore.

Making Own Beds

N.ce. June 28.

More than 1,000 hotels on the Riviera closed down at noon to- day. All the proprietors ordered the main entrances to be shut, and notices were put up stating hotel

The notices also gave the reasons for this extraordinary measure, which was decided upon late-last night by the Federation of Hotel Proprietors of the Alpes Maritimes

district

"

The proprietors. it is explained, wished firstly to support the own- ers of the hotels at Cannes which had been occupied by their strik

ing staff for the past week. Secondly, they wished to proest at the imposition of the 40-hour Garrod, week and wages increases, which they maintain will ruin ther business.

KING'S RANCH

RICHEST STRIKE IN- RECENT YEARS

Source May Be On Royal Property.

Calgary, June 28. King Edward's E. P. ranc.1 believed to south-east of here

be the source of the richest all strike in recent years. The ranch was leased in 1930 to the then. Prince of Wales under a 99-year lease, and also includes all and mineral rights.

The lease is believed to be the only one of its kind granted to an individual or an oll company sign- ed by the late American Govern-

ment by a secret order-in-council. No publicity, was given to it at that time, and there was no sug- gestion that oil was present any- where in the immediate vicinity.

The reason that oll and mineral rights. were included. it is stated here, was to prevent exploitation of the property by all companies following the 1930 o1 boom. Ou experts here believe that a rich crude-all pool which was tapped. south of the Turner valley recent- 1r direction to the King's ranch and possibly the source of the pool fles within the Royal property.

The terms of the lease provide that if the King ceaser to hold the surface rights of the ranch he automatically relinquishes the ol and mineral rights.
