British Olympic -Trials

London, July 11 Despite the fact that the track was still in a very heavy condi- tion. 45,000 spectators were pre- sent when the amateur athletic championships, constituting the British Olymple trials, were cop- thued at the White City Stadium to-day.

The Discus Throw, was won by Prendergast with a throw of 141 ft. 5 ins. Reavell Carter was' second, a quarter of an inch behind. and Bell third, with a throw of 134 ft. 7 ins. Prendergast and Carter both beat the English native record of 140 feet

Drake won the Throwing the

Hammer event with 151 ft. ina. Smith being second with 142 ft. 91 ms, the third place going to Monallen (Ireland) whose distance

was 141 it 6 ins

The Javelin Throw Went to Vanderpall (Holland) who won the event with a throw of 189 ft. 2 ins. Wilson was second with 180 ft. 41 ins, while Turner, was third with 159 ft. 9 ins.

Powell won the half mile covar- ing the distance in 1 min, 54.7 secs. He was a yard in front of fandley, who only managed to oust Kucharski (Poland) from second place by half a yard.

De Bruyn (Holland) won the Putting the Weight event with 46 t 2 Ins. Howland gained, second place with 45 ft. and Carver was third, his effort being 41 t. 7 ins. Britain, however, won the Pole Vault, Webster setting up, a new English native record with a leap of 12 ft. 9 ins, Woodhouse of Aus- tralia was second clearing 12 ft. 6 ins. and Leash was third with il ít. } ing.

Another English record wus equalled in the 100 Yards when Osendrap (Holland), breasted the tape. In 9.8 secs with Sweeney second and Holmes third. The Dutchman won by a matter of in- ches only, while half a yard re- parated the second and third com- petitors.
