The announcement that St. Stephen's College would shortly open a preparatory school for children between eight and 12 years of age, with all lessons in Chinese, was made by Rev. E. W. L. Martin (Warden) when he delivered his annual report, at the prize giving vele. brations at the College yesterday,

In the absence of His Lordship. the Bishop, Chairman of the Col- lege Council, it devolves upon me to preside over this gathering this afternoon, and on behalf of the College and everyone with it, thank His Excellency and Lady JCaldecott for coming here and extend to them our heartiest and most cordial welcome. We are very grateful to Lady Caldecott distribute who has consented to the prizes.

Since he has taken over the reins of Government in Hong Kong, His Excellency has taken a keen In- terest in every institution, not the least of which are the educational Institutions.
