THE BRIDE COMES HOME
Claudette Colbert and Fred Mac- Murray, seen together for the first time in "The Ollded Lily," are back in another of Paramount's spright- ly modern screen romances, "The Bride Coales: Home," which open- ed yesterday at the Star Theatre. Miss Colbert 1s cast as the doughter of William Collier, Sr., a former man of wealth who has i faller on evil, days. The two of them are down to a diet of beans as the story opens. and Miss Col- hert decides it is time she went to work.
Her childhood sweetheart, Ro- bert Young, has just inherited three million dollars and for a long time has been asking her to marry him He is addicted to the bottle, however, and. his proclivity; for getting into fights makes it necessary for a bodyguard to, ac- company him in his roamings. The bodyguard, a former newspaper- man, is Fred MacMurray, whose right first solves many an embar- rassing problem employer.

THE COUNTRY DOCTOR
AT THE KING'S AND ALHAMBRA
Country at the Dlorine
Crowds will see "The Doctor," now showing Theatres, because of the quintuplets, and they will not be disappointed becausE these fam- ous babies are adorable" and are living miracles. More than that, they are an unparalleled triumph to the obscure doctor who brought them into the world and raised them to the' happy, healthy two- year olds they are to-day.
Containing the elements of greatness, it has sufficient drama. humour, and the things which will strike a common chord in the hearts of all. The "love interest" could easily be dispensed with, for the romance of the country doc- tor, who practised 35 years in the north-west of Canada and count ed himself amply repaid, by two pigs for the delivery of twins, and later became world-famous, but could not understand why, is "ro- mance in all its fullness.
Any weakness the story might have is fully balanced by the splendid performance of Jean Hers- holt as the doctor. Others who ably supported him were Miss Do- rothy Peterson Bs the nurse and Slim Summerville as the repre- sentative of the law. And short though their appearance, pro- bably owing to the laws of Canada the quintuplets steal all hearts and the film is noteworthy because of their presence. If for nothing else. This film should not be missed.
