Hats And Summer Dresses

The house of the late Jean Pa- tou showed a collection of summer ensembles last week which invited women to dress discreetly in soft colours, suave materials, and graceful lines. Many of the dresses are printed either with flower pat- terns or some nest design in spots. Crepes in blue and white and black and white are used to makɛ. coats and skirts, with a blouse in the same material but with the colours reversed--that is to say, the coat and skirt may have a groundwork of navy blue and A pattern to white, the blouse has the groundwork in white, the pat- tern in blue. The necklines are closed and may have a bow of rib- ton to raatch the belt, both of which make a sharp contrast, light or dark, to the dress. When a bow is not worn a brooch may be, with a buckle on the belt to match. With. a black-and-white printed dress is put a big yellow hat.

There are draped and frilled shoul- der straps and the front of the bodice is usually, softly draped or frilled. Some of the hats worn with summer dresses have ball crowns growing narrower as they rise and not very wide brima,

The last race meeting at Long- champ proclaimed that it is the hat alone which makes the en- semble look as if made for spring. The hats were flower and feather trimmed and some were very large, Here and there
