POMPEII".
From the ashes of the past a mighty spectacle of history has been recreated for the screen. Im- portant events of the first century of the Christian era combine to provide the vivid highlights of RKO Radio's "The Last Days of Pompeli." The eruption of Vesu- vius and the destruction of the classic city by earthquake provides a stirring climax, and a brilliant drama rolls through the savage splendour of the Roman Empire.
Preston Foster, rapidly rising to heights of stardom. appears as Marcus, a man who makes riches
and power his goal, only to learn that they avail him nothing when he seeks to buy happiness with' them.
Basil Rathbone plays the part of Pontius Pilate, Roman magistrate. and John Wood, brilliant young English star, appears as Marcus'
son.
Alan Hale, Louis Cathern. Dorothy Wilson, Gloria Shea and David Holt. the talented child star, appear in other, important roles.
"The Last Days of Pompeti" is a Merian C. Cooper production with Ernest B. Schoedsack directing for RKO Radlo. Ruth Rose wrote the screen play, based upon an original story by James Ashmore Creelman and Melville Baker.

CHINA'S CURRENCY
AND AMERICA'S GOLD
London, May 25. From the datcila so far cada kuown of the agreement, that has been reached between the United States and Chinese Governments and of the new currency measures adopted by China it would appear that both Governments have obtain- ed solid advantages from the nego tiation, which have recently been concluded, China has greatly in- proved nor chances of success in maintaining a stabilized managed currency since the United States bas agreed to buy substantial moi punts of silver from the Central Bank of China and also to provide that bank with dollar exchange for currency stabilization purposes. The U.S. Treasury by the acquisi- tion of silver and by the provision of dollar exchange capable of be ing converted into gold has further. ed the attainment of its objective of a reserve of 25 per cent on silver against 75 per cent, in gold, Ju some quarters the iden prevailed time the negotiatinus might result in China's reversion to the silver standard. This is not the cave, but it should be noted that she is to have a bi-metallic reserve against her note issue, the silver portion to be at least 25 per cent. of the total reserve, which is to consist of gold, foreign exchange (presumably con vertible into "gold)" and silver. Chinese currency, according to the annoncement made by the Chinese Minister of Finance, Mr. Kung, is! not to be linked with any foreign monetary unit, but for the time be ing the agreement with the U.S. "Treasury implies some measure of af association with the American dollar.
