MODERATE DIVIDENDS

Although several upsets were registered at the First Day races of the Sixth Extra "Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club held on Saturday afternoon, not many appreciable dividends were returned with the exception of Racing Heart's win in the Victoria Park Handicap which returned 350,66 to each of its 191 successful backers. The other dividends were moderate and the cash sweep dividends were all below the usual average. Racing Heart and King's Sceptre's combination was responsible for the 30 success- ful backers of the Daily Double to receive $123.40.each.

Attendance on the whole was only moderate which was part- ly responsible for the state of the dividends. The rain earlier in the day helped to make the truck easy going, and although no records were broken several close finishes were witnessed,

The day's racing provided Mr. W. H. Choy, a win which en- abled him to graduate from the Novices' class. Riding honours were evenly divided. Mr. H. C. 14h heads the winning list with two firsts, one second and two thirds, while Mr. S. L. Liang had two firsts and a third, Mr. N. Deltz had one first, one second and two thirds, Messrs. I. C. Harris and D. Black each had one first -and a second and Mr. B. A. Proulx had a first and a third.

MAY HANDICÀP After the heavy showers in the morning the sun helped to dry up the course somewhat, and by the time the first race was scheduled to be ran actendance was moderate) Honeymoon Eve which was entered was scratched at the last moment leaving only four ponies for the race with Royal Scot being made the favourite. It was a great race, a5 Oak Bay and Gladiator took the lead followed by Royal Scot and Soldier of Britain. At the half mile

King's Jubilee led the field with Mistake Bay in the third position. Round the last quarter the ponies were bunched together, and seve- ral ponles including Sadko were Jammed. Try as the ponies and jockeys did they were unable to get out of the Jam and eventually about 50 yards more to go Sadko did get out and gave the first two ponies a good race but to no avail. CUSTOMS HANDICAP "C" CLASS The second leg of the Dally Double-five furlongs dash-attract- ed 10 entries. Flybynight dashed

post the leaders maintained their positions with Soldier of Britain moving up to the third place, The last quarter saw a great tussle as Royal Scot and Soldler of Britain 'came up strongly. A neck to neck race ensued on the stretch and Sol-ley dier of Britain just nosed out the favourite by a short head, Gladia- for was the same distance behind Royal Scot..

WARWICK FARM HANDICAP "A" CLASS

Derby Day set the pace with a good start followed by Bobniak Star. Electron, Double Finesse and Australian Boy were in the rear. There were no changes in the posi tions until the last quarter when Mr. Deitz on Electron spurted to challenge the. leader "strongly. It was a great race, and Mr. Deltz's jockeyship was rewarded when he brought Electron home a length and a half ahead of Derby Day. The time was only 1;5 of a second behind the record."

SHATIN HANDICAP "D" CLASS

Ten ponies faced the starter. Lemberg took the lead with Tyne and Daylight Eve in the rear. Fox- bridge being somewhat left behind. At the half mile post Plain View came up to the second post- tion with Daylight Eve in the lead. On the stretch Plain View shot out and about 150 yds. from the end Foxbridge challenged strongly but to no avall and was content with second place with Seventeenth of September, third.

CUSTOMS HANDICAP "C" CLASS

Monoplane was badly left behind as Harvest View took the lead followed by King's Bounty and Pon- tlac Bay. The race was between these three panles right from the start and these positions were maintained till the last furlong when Pontiac Bay came up to challenge the leader. It was a close tussle but Harvest View was able to stay the pace and won by a short head with King's Bounty third.

VICTORIA PARK HANDICAP "B" CLASS

off with King's Sceptre second. It. was not long when Amberley came up and on the home stretch Ythan gave King's Sceptre a good race to snatch second place from Amber- King's Sceptre being a length ahead of Ythan.
