"SHOW THEM NO MERCY"
At The King's
In "Show Thèm No Mercy"! the a20th Century thriller, which open- ed yesterday at the King's Theatre violence, intense emotional drama, spontaneous humour and romance are tightly packed in the speedy sequences of this new picture which reveals the new underworld terror in America's fight to wipe it out. "The plot of "Show Them No Mercy!" carries Rochelle Hudson and Edward Norris, two inocent young people with their baby. Into the hideout of the gang. The criminals have $200,000 in "hot money," and are waiting for the hue and cry to die down.
The story of an escaped convict who steals time away from the hangman to destroy the man who squealed on him, "Four Bours to Kill!" offers thrills and chil's galore for even the most seasoned of melodrama addicts,
Richard Barthelmess acts the unforgettable character of Tony Mako. He is the criminal escaped from the noose in Colorado, who' comes to a theatre with the de- tective who has charge of him to while away the time between trains.
Barthelmess glimpses an usher- ette and recognizes the wife of the man whose word is sending him to his death. Knowing now now
he will get his revenge, he man- ages to elude the detective in the washroom and hides in the lobby of the theatre until his intended victim shows up.
But while this life drama is working itself out other minor dramas are taking place in the theatre. The checkroom boy, Joe Morricon, ambitious and in love with, Helen Mack, ands himself involved with Dorothy Tree, Ger- trude Michael, a rich man's wife, plans to run away with philandering sweetheart, Ray Mil- land... The lives of all these people, through the strange turns of fortune. become involved with Barthelmess tragedy.
Panicky, afraid that the youngs- ters will disclose their refuge, the gangsters are all for putting them out of the way.
Through a series of exciting! scenes, the picture reveals how the well-laid plans of the Departmen of Justice draws the net tighter about them, until the mobster: flee, leaving one of their numbe! behind.
In a smashing climax, Cesar Romero and Bruce Cabot, leaders of the gang, decide to shoot Miss Hudson and Norris. But a daring: ruse on the part of the two intend- ed victims gives them the upper
