Low Dividends And

Poor Attendance FAVOURITES WELL BACKED

The bright sunny weather which prevailed during the whole on Saturday, of last week suddenly took a turn for the worse which was somewhat responsible for the poor attendance and low dividends at the Fifth Extra Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. During the course of the day rain fell intermit tently with the result that the course was inclined to be on the heavy ildo.

Favourites had a very successful day, but despite this fact there were several close and exciting Anishes with a very short head separating the winners. Only two "dividends reached the thirty mark: Stopwatch paid $32.00 for a win and Mayflower paid $32.40 for another win in the last race of the day. Cash sweep dividends were decidedly on the low side. The first prize in the $2 cash sweep for the seventh face only yielded $1,750. The successful combination of Ythan and Stopwatch in the Dally: Double paid $161.50 each to its 20 lucky panters.

Riding honours were very evenly divided; Mr. IL C. Ph had two firsts and a second followed by Mr. N. Deltz with two firsts and a third. Mr. P. P. Botelho with two firsts, Mr. D. Black with a first, two seconds and two thirds and Mr. Ip Kui Ying with a Arst and a third.
