The mere recital of Sir Murray Anderson's activities would afford material for a dozen romances. Since he joined the Royal Navy he has travelled all over the globe. He was in the Brass River Expedi- tion in 1895; the Ashanti Expedi- tion of 1896; all through the Great War; temporary Commander-in- Chief of the China Station in 1925; and Commander-in-Chief of the Africa Station, 1927-1929. When he was in the last-named post, he acted for six months as High Com- missioner in South Africa. This experience of an important ad- ministrative post was to stand him In good stead in. the later stages of his career.

For a number of years, also, Bir Murray was Commander of HM. Yacht, Victoria and Albert. He're- tired from the Navy in 1932, but Instead of remaining at anchor for the rest of his days, he began a new career. He was appointed Governor of Newfoundland in 1933. During his term of office the form of Government in Newfoundland was changed. Owing to serious
