Dr. Wellington's Speech

At Annual Ball

BIG CROWD AT HOTEL

Valuable assistance was given to the Government · by the St. John Ambulance Brigade, declared the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services (Dr. A. R. Wellington) when he addressed the big gathering » which assembled for the Brigade's annual ball at the Hong Kong Hotel last night.

In a review of the Brigade's work, Dr. Wellington declared that the Brigade was doing a lot through propaganda in dispelling, the prejudice and fear medicine which was formerly so

prevalent

Over 1,000 guests gathered in the grill room of the Hote to attend the dinner and dance. which was. a in previous years, eminently successful,

His Excellency the Governor (Sir Andrew Caldecott) accompanied by Capt. W. J. R. Cragg, A.D.C. az- Tived early in the proceedings and Wellington was received by Dr. (President) and other officials.

Official guests at the ball were:

cou'd be increased more than dou- ble its present strength.

MANY VACCINATIONS During the year 211,271 vaccina- tions were performed. Some of these were done at street station: some by request, at schools, fac- tories and business-places.

Probably the most valuable ser- vice rendered by both the Associa tion and Brigade is that of propa- ganda through which the prejudet against and fear concerning scien- tifle medicine formerly so prevalent has argely disappeared.

His many friends in the Colony W211 be sorry to learn of the death of Mr. James McLeod, former Chlet Warder at the Victoria, Gaol. which occurred in Dumbarton. Scotland, recently.
