Trolley Buses In The East
The Munia.pality of Georgetown, Fenang, has had considerable ex- pcrience in operating electric trolley buses dating back to 1926 and since that date has from time to time augmented its fleet' as the result of c'ose observation of loca conditions.

-The original vehicles purchased in 1926 were Runcomes 35-ceata saloons with specia; low floor and entrance. Two years later Ave similar buses were added to the fee. More recently, however, It was decided that a smaller type Jus was desirable, and the Ipswich Arm suppled chassis sult- able for 24-scater bodies. Within the last few weeks a further order for 12 vehicles has been placed.

Experience has shown that high speeds in a public service vehicle are of little use where traffic is congested or the stops per mile Tery frequent, but on the other hand high acceleration is of the greatest importance. With these principles in mind the to- buses bave Leen designed for a top speed of approximately 20 m.p.h... and tests indicate that, as a con- sequence of this limitation and the SyFlem control employed, the current consumption will be very low indeed.
The vehicles are driven by 35 b.h.p. aeries motors designed for the serles-deld-regulated system of control. In view of the special circumstances, it was decided to employ rheostatic braking operat- ed from the same peda' as the usual mechanical foot brake. By operating the electric braking from the normal brake pedal it renders its use by the driver compulsory.
