King's Warden Sets
New Record
A touch of real summer weather greated the Second Extra Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club on Saturday, which was featured by several upsets that benefited panters to a great extent.
Racing on the whole was of a higher standard than the pre- vious meeting. The track was in a good state. with the result that fast goings were the order of the day. King's Warden (Mr. Roza) set up a new record for the distance of about a mile and 171 yards when be clocked the time of 2.08.2, bettering the pre- vious record of Ribble's 212.2 over the same distance, Electron (Mr. Deltz) equalled the record of 1.45 set up by Saucy Face over the mile distance,

Attendance was satisfactory. Dividends returned were derate. The highest dividend paid wa's on Pontiac Bay, when the novice, Mr. Choy Wing Chiu pilated the mount in for a third place in the Talwan Bay Handicap to pay its 14 backers $164.10 each. Other high dividends of the day were: Tiny Star (Mr. Deftz) $68.80, Sadko (Mr. P. F. Botelho) $67.70 and Miracle (Mr. Pih) $62.30 all for wins. Cash sweep dividends were also on the high side. The highest paid during the day was in the last race when the first prize realised $1,547, Only 47 punters were suc- cessful in backing the Daily Double and were each rewarded with $78.50

WEDDING BELLS
Mr. W. E. Meadows Ceremony at Kowloon
Union Church
The funeral of the late Mr. Wil- iam E. Meadows, acting Sub- Inspector of the Criminal In- vestigation Department (Special Branch) took place at Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon, Rev. H. W. Balnes offelating at the graveside.
Mr. Meadows' death from typhold early Saturday morning came as a shock to the many friends he had made in the Co-
lony.
Born, at Northampton in 1901, Mr. Meadows arrived in Hong Kong in 1923 and had had a dis- tinguished record in the police force. He was commended by the Inspector several occasions and in 1927 was thanked by the Naval authorities for his work as Blas Bay.

An indication of the popularity of the bride and groom was the huge crowd which packed the Un- lon Church at Kowloon on Satur- day afternoon for the marriage of Miss Sarah Ferguson Marshall Maitland Mitchell and Mr. Adam Marshall. Even the gallery was filled and several people remained outside.
