FRUTTLESS BATTLE

COMMENT
England deserved to win, but if anyone was capable of place-kick- ing slightly more than in the un- orthodox manner among the
three-quarters there would have been a score more in keeping with their superiority.
Candler and Cranmer dropped vital passes and did not allow Obolensky and Sever to get away. They both, however, put up a fine defence. Owen Smith was not up to standard. On the Scottish side
Kerr was a man in the match who covered up the deficiencies of his three-quarters with wonderful tackling and bis kicking superb.

It is n significant fact and one very pro- perly stressed by Mr, Wood that fewer policies have been surren- dered and that there has been decrease in terminations occasion ed by the exhaustion of reserves through the accumulation of po- licy loan indebtedness. Moreover, as the influences of the depression pass the rate of termination is ex- pected to show still further Im- case of the provement In the Sun Late the amount of cash re- ceived in repayment or reduction of policy loans in 1935 was the highest in the company's history and was 20 per cent, higher than the amount received during the pre- year in new ordinary life mfums, while new policy loans sought during the year were de- finitely upon a normal basis...

Life Insurance is big business, but, as Mr. Wood has pointed out, the term has no sinis- ter implication; on the contrary, the magnitude of life insurance figures ought to be and is a source ur pride to those concerned, In- dicating as it does, that this, the greatest co-operative enterprise in the history of mankind, is bene- niting the Ilves of millions of peo- ple whose funds are being ad- ministered in their behalf in a tar better way, a more, helpful, and fruitful way, than would be possi- ble with the individuals them- selves.
