TRIBUTES IN COURT

Mr. C. E. L. Grist's Death Recalled

Another full assembly of the legal fraternities W33 at hand yesterday at the Supreme Court when glowing tributes were paid to the late Mr. Charles Edward Lawrence Grist.

The first tribute which was paid by the Acting Chief Justice, Mr. Justice R. E Lindsell and who in- cidentally presided at the function took place as the assembly stood in silence.

His Honour said:--

"Mr. Attorney, Officers of this. Court and members of both branches of the profession--There has indeed been a melancholy year of sessions of this Caurt occasion- ed by the deaths of members of the profession. To-day we have sat to take sympathetic notice of the death, when still a young man. of Mr. Charles Edward Lawrence Grist who after serving his articles and qualifying out here, was admitted and enrolled a solici- tor of this Court in January: 1928, and has practised here since as a member of Wilkinson and Grist which was founded by his father in partnership with Mr, C. D. Wil- kinson in 1891. The name of Grist has thus been associated with the lew in Hong Kong tor over 40

years.

'Mr. Grist was at the same time of a retiring and of a most friend- ly disposition, and everyone, my self included, who met him could not but help liking him. "On be half of my Brother and myself I desire to express our sense of the loss to the profession occasioned by his death and our heartfelt widow and sympathy with his parents."

FOOTSTEPS The Hon Mr. C. Q. Alabaster, Attorney-General, said: "On be half of the Bar and Officers of this Court I would like to say that We wish to be associated with the tribute your Lordship has paid in memory of the late Mr. Grist and with the expression of sympathy to his widow and family.
