Steps To Safeguard The Exchange

London, Feb. 18. " The much-discussed British cre- dit. 10 France has now been agreed upon. arrangements having been concluded for a loan of £40.000,- 000 for a period not exceeding nine months at interest of 3 per cent.

A statement announcing the conclusion of the loan agreement

issued by the Treasury last evening, and was in the following

terma-

"The French Government have arranged with a group of Bri- tish banks organised by Messrs Lazard Bros. and Co. a credit of £40.000.000 for the period not exceeding nine months, with in.. terest at 3 per cent.

"Arrangements

have been between the Bank of England and the Bank of France with the object of safeguarding the exchange from disturbances. which this transaction might otherwise involve."

The London/New York cross- rate was quoted at 4.971. New York/London was quoted at 4.973.
