Macaroni Disqualified - And

Jockey Suspended

PUNTERSSSFUL DAY

Excellent racing was had on Saturday at the Valley when the First Extra Race Meeting of the Hong Kong Jockey Club was held which provided many sensations and thrilling finishes.

The weather was not too unkind and although attendance was moderate the sports had could be considered as being much above the usual standard. Finishes were close and exciting and punters on the whole had a very successful day considering the fact that out of the nine races favourites were, beaten in st least five of them,

The disqualification of Macaroni and the suspension of its rider, AI, Y. T. Fung from participating in racing for the "first half of the racing season, created quite a stir. Mr. Fung was suspended due to a protest lodged by the Dunbar Stable when in the "All Ont" Stakes Macaroni bored into Mistake Bay on the stretch which was considered dangerous riding.

Dividends on the whole were quite satisfactory. Mr. Delta returned the highest dividend of the day when he piloted Copper Idol home first in the "Hay and Corn" Stakes to pay his 80 backers $62.10 each for a win. The next best dividend was re- corded by Snowy River in the last race when he pald $42.40 for a win to 234 backers. Only 62 punters were successful in backing the second leg of the Daily Double and were each rewarded with $61.70.

Mr. N. Delta Racing honours were very evenly distributed. was the most successful jockey returning two firsts and three seconds, with Mr. D. Black second with two firsts, one second and one third and Mr. H. C. Pih with two firsts. A notable absentee was Mr. I G. Frost who was prevented from riding due to indis- position.

His Excellency the Governor, Sir Andrew Caldecott, accom- panied by Capt. 'W. J. R. Cragg, A.D.C., and Mr. J. H. B. Lee (Private Secretary) were also at the races.

Exciting And Close Finishes

THE "HAY 'AND CORN" STAKES when Tinsmith ably ridden by Mr. The track was in good condition. C. Pih piloted the pony home which ought to make going on the fast side. Though the weather was, not all that could be desired. nevertheless it was on the favour able side with the sun doing its best to break through the heavy clouds. Thirteen starters were set

head of the favourite Zodiac. Rodiac and Honey alterniated for Arst place at the beginning. Until the half mile post Zodiac once more took the lead, with Honey un Merry Time in the rear. On the stretch Tinsmith came spur-

DEPORTATION LAW

The "Gazette" contains the draiv of an Ordinance to regulate the Deportation of Undesirable British subjects.

It is explained that as the con- solidation of the Deportation Or- dinances 1917. 1929 and 1931, in the Deportation of Allens Ordin- ance, 1935, (Ordinance No. 39 of 1935) does not re-enact those of their provisions which related to British subjects it has btcome necessary to enact a Deportation Ordinance for British Subjects.

This Ordinance follow's with modifications à model Bill which 'was attached to the Report, dated the September 12, 1933, of 'a De partmental Committee

the of Colonial Office appointed by the Secretary of State.

GOVERNMENT SERVANTS SALARIES CUT

The "Gazette" contains the draft of an Ordinance to make provision for a levy on the salaries of public officers in the Hong Kong Govern- ment Service.

and Copper Idol (Mr. Deitz up) came up to challenge the leader to eventually win the race by a short head. Racing Boy (Mr. Tang Man. Wa) came in third two lengths behind. This first upset paid its 80 backers $6240 each.

THE "LOITERERS" STAKES The seven furlongs' Novice Race astracted only seven starters with Amberley being heavily backed. Miracle shot out to the front but was soon overhauled by Laughing Giri and Amberley. Langhing Giri maintained the lead until the last quarter when Donovan ably ridden by Mr. W. C. Foy came up nicely and between the three of them a great finish was witnessed. Am berley gradually faded out and Donovan and Laughing Girl were gcing neck to neck with Donovan finally clinching the issue by a short head.

On the stretch Wild Cat came out strongly and with Rose Evelyn put up a glorious anish. Wild Cat won by a short head and Rose Evelyn's burst of speed was responsible for Gold Sovereign's third place.

THE HONG KONG HANDICAP "A" DIVISION Herod was in the front closely pursued by King's Warden when

til on the stretch was he overtaken by Rose-Ann and Racing Heart. Snowy River showed a good turn of speed on the home stretch when it shot right out to the front strongly challenged by Rose-Ann.
