HORTICULTURAL SHOW
Keen Competition And "Lovely Exhibits
Despite the dismal and bitterly cold weather of yesterday, many people thronged to the Volunteers Parade · Ground. The site of the Flower and Vegetable show, which was held under the auspices of the Hong Kong Horticultural Society.
"
The exhibits were of an extremely fine and varied charae- ver and their high quality is ample testimony of the care and unremitting attention that has been devoted to them to make the Show the success that it undoubtedly
was. Quo cannot
eulogize upon any one particular 'exbibit, but collectively, they contribute to show the very fine, quality of local products that can be produced it only care and attention is afforded to them.
Among the many and di.t.nguished visitors to the Show was His Excellency, Sir Andrew Ca decott, who evinced the greatest of nterest and who wa ked around and viewed the exh.bit, with ev d ent appreciation. Others" pres.nt Included Sir Thomas and Lady Southurn. Lady Southorn, whom we know, is the President of the Society, Lady Ho Tung, Mrs. Bartholomew, Capt. พ. J. R. Cragz. Sir William Horneil, the Hon. Mr. T. H. King and Mrs. King, the Hon. Mr. J. P. Braga, Dr. G. A. C. Herkots. Mr. J. T. Bagram (Hon. Secretary) and Mr. Andrew Tse (Hop. Treasur-

Your Excellency, Ladies and Centlemen: The past weeks have been anxious ones for gardeners and at one time 'ooking #t the sodden vegalation around us We wondered whether it would be possible to have a Show at all. But valiant counsels prevailed. Hong Kong gardeners must be oprimists. The rain fal's upon the just and the unjust. I often wish it were more discriminating. At times it! sweeps away the work of our Lands, at other times it withholds itself our seedings wither like Jonah's Gourd. During the rainy stason we can often sympathise with, Dan Leno's friend who living on the banks of the Thames was

Gentlemen,--The Report Accounts having been in your hands for some time. I will, with your permission, folow the usual porcedure and take them as read. The past year's working dis- coles a considerable decrease in carnings. There was a drop of $168.000 in receipts for Storage and $68.000 in Lighterwork. In Wharf work, however, the receipts were $57,000 better than in 1934. Work at the wharves was very ships were satisfactory, for 925 berthed and 818.730 tons of cargo Elanded, this being 100 vessels more to go alongside and an increase o 80.200 tons of
cargo landed compared with 1934. These figures illustrate that it te 1321- doubtedly more satisfactory for a vessel to go alongside a whart. to discharge than it is to dellver
