Cmdr. Cochrane; who is the second of Lord Cochrane of Cults, v. and is 51, was present at the Bat tle of Heligoland Bight. In 1915, with two other naval officera, hc did great damage to enemy ship- ping in the Sea of Marmora. blocked the railway Ene near Kaya Burnu by bombarding it, shelled a troop train, and blew up three ammunition cars attached to it.

Later in the war he was taken prisoner, and in August 1918 he escaped, with seven other British officers, from a prison camp at Yozgad. They trekked 450 miles through Asia Minor, eventually | reaching Cyprus. For this feat he was awarded a bar to, his D.S.O. He retired from the Navy in 1922. He has been Conservative MP. for Dumbartonshire since 1932. The figures at last year's General
