The inclement weather on Saturday did not in the least ham- per the spirit and ardour of racing fans when they attended the First Race Meeting of the Annual Races of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

ኮነ

Attendance on the whole was satisfactory, dividends being on the low side. Favourites had their day and the only upset provided by Wild Cat In the Valley Stakes gave its 105. backers $82.50 each the highest dividend of the day, although Tang Man Wa's mount-Mayflower which came in third in the Old Course Plate returned, $41.70 to Its, 17 backers,

Good times were out of the question on the day's racing due no doubt to the heavy ground which was caused by the show- ers which fell intermittently during the day. The Daily Double was successfully backed by 12 punters which returned $331.50 for Each bet.

Riding honours were eventy divided. Invading Jockeys did not have things all their way. Mr. Leo Frust (champlon local Jockey) headed the list with three firsts, and two seconds while Mr. V. V. Needa had two firsts, two seconds and two thirds and Mr. T. L. Wong had two firsts, one second and two thirds,
