In spite of the attempt on the facts of certain modistes to po- pularise the idea of wearing vivid colour notes upon black dresses. NOVEL SUITS

Suits at present show various novelties. There is the lace suit for afternoon. This is cut severely the lace providing all the variety that is necessary. The jacket is mostly short and more or less fitting, with sleeves fall to the elbow and then following the arm The skirt 19 straight and plain. In some cases the skirt has full- ness pushed well to the back and not interfering with the straight, front silhouette. Some suits show the corselet skirt. With the vogue for black dresses, white is naturally em- phasised. A black dress may have the huge white pleated twist under the chin, which takes up a large proportion of the rodine- front. EVENING WEAR

In the meantime evening dress seems to be much lied about with wings, streamers, loopings. The sheath remains, often with low back or low under-arms, with strapping round the neck or across the shoulder like a harness. Piguet. who strikes the young note has sheath, in the front of which is a huge triangle of the material, starting from the shoulders and ending in a narrow point below the waist. To the shoulders are attached long, trailing wings which are brought round to the front and looped there just at the low point of the triangle.

A prominent note on the new. frocks will be balloon sleeves either coming to just below the elbow or Anishing just above.
