O'SHAUGHNESSY'S -BOY

There have been many interesting reunions at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, but none stranger than that which occured under the Big Tog erected for "O'Shaughnessy's Boy," co-starring Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper, which opens Sunday at the King's Theatre.

First to greet Beory on the set was Joe Metcalf, veteran elephant trainer, for many years with the Al G. Barnes circus, who learned the business with Beery when they travelled, as young- sters, with the Foropaugh-Selle circus. Their expressions of mutual pleasure over meeting again were interrupin by the shrill trumpeting of an elephant"

Cardinal Richelieu's bitter struggle THE RENOWNED GAETANO GIRLS

to maintain his control over Louis XIII of France in the 17th century dominates one of the most dramatic eras in French history, What is more, it has importance in French literary history, for it gave Alexandre Dumas vivid background and a motivating force for the romantic adventures of d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, in "The Three Musketeers," which has been adapted to the screen by RKO Radio and which is currently showing at the King's Theatre.

These boisterous hearties, d'Artag- nau, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, it is said, were actual figures of the time, but the rotuned Dumas gave them new life and new favour in his classic tales. As a result they have marched down to the present with a vast and readers, high tribute to their anthor's ever increasing army of enthralled extraordinary intuition for entertain-

Woolsey feature by RKO Radio with Dorothy Lee, brings to the screen a sustained suspensa rare in celluloid comedies, according to Lee Marcus, producer

Early scenes of "The Rainmakers," based on the efforts of Wheeler and Woolsey to lighten the woes of a drought-ridden farming community, sparkle with horseplay and humour. But each scene builds swiftly toward a crashing climax in which two dynamite-laden locomotives race scross the countryside with Bert and Bob in the engine caba.

This particular sequence sounds a new note in suspense-comedy, expected to prove more startling than the so-called "human fy scene in Harold classic comedy scene of silent days, the Lloyd's "Safety Last."

Director Fred Quiol tossed all comedy conventions, into the discar when be reached "The Rainmakers," railroad finish. Calling in full on the talents of his two stars, he ran the climax through lavish footage with only six lines of dialogue. Two reele of a motion picture use 2,000 feet of fl, and filin passes on the theatre screen at the average rate of 90 feet a minute. It requires approximately 20 minutes to portray the climax, given over entirely to drama, suspense and comedy pantomime.

This picture will be shown at the Alhambra Theatre on Saturday.
