A PLEASANT FUNCTION
Mrs. C. E. L. Grist Honoured
Many people gathered together at the Girl Guide Headquarters, Sandilands Hat, yesterday evening to witness the presentation of the Medal of Merit to Mrs. C. E. L. Grist. Lady Southor, the Guide Commissioner, performed the pre- sentation.
The Arst ceremony after tea was the enrolment of three Guiders, the other Guiders forming a horse- shoe.
""
Lady Southorn in making the presentation said:-
I have a twofold pleasant task is to welcome to perform. One
Mrs, Bartholomew and the Gulde Vice-Presidents here to-day, and the other to, present. Mrs, C. E. L Grist with the Medal of Merit which has been awarded her from We were Gunde Headquarters. asked to present the Medal on February 22, the Joint birthday of
Chief Scout and the Chief but that day was inipossible great many of us. So we to-day, and we look upon it
as a celebration of Thinking Day. as February 22 is called in the Guide world. I know that the affec- tionate thoughts of all guides go out to their Chiefs, especially as the recent papers said that they were both suffering from dengue fever. We wish them a speedy recovery with all our hearts and a safe re- turn to their home at Pax after their African tour.

THE DAY'S EVENT
has ever been. better deserved either for services in Hong Kong
elsewhere. Mrs. Grist has begged me to say nothing about her career, in fact she would have liked me to hand over the Medal when we were alone, or send it by post. such is her modesty. But we all feel that we want to do her honour not only for her untiring devotion to guide work but also for her charming personality, which makes working with her a real joy. Through some private detective work I have discovered that Mrs. Grist became a Guide over 21 years ago. It seems in- credible when your look at her.
FIRST CLASS GUIDE She is a 1st Class Guide, holds all Round Cards, Nursing Armlet and the War Service 1916 badge for interpreting at a Belgian Home. In addition she holds 23 badges. But I am sure she will stop me in
4 minute, so I will only say that she deserves the Medal alone for her wonderful organisation of the Girl Guide Jubilee last year. All rejoice at this recognition of her work for the Gulde Movement and we hope she will help Hong Kong Guiding for many a year' to come. She brings the Guide irit into every day life and we wish her with all affection many happy years in which to wear this Medal of Merit.
The medal was then presented to Mrs. C. E, L. Grist.

YACHTING NOTES
Light Airs And No Results
The Yacht Club's Cruiter racing- programme suffered a further re- verse on Sunday, when the arth Championship race round Cheurig Chan had to be abandoned for 'lack of wind; the Cruisers are thus left with two resalis on hand and the Four Tonners with three.
Both Classes were away to a light East wind, with spinnakers set for the run down the harbour: the going was quite fatr until West Paint when the wind fel! right away and from then on is never looked very much ilke be- ing t race. The four Tonners were well bunched up as they came out through the Sulphur Channel, but the Cruisers had started to string out with La Cl- gale and U. & I. in the lead. while Azuma and Wanderer were holding up further North and left Green Island to Port. "
CORRECT TACTICS
These tactics seemed to be cor- rect at the start and Azuma was well ahead of the rest of the fleet by the time she had got to the by South of Kaulchau; however, here the East wind got tired and gave up, and the yachts after i period of calm were soon off again to light Westerly airs, Down to the South by Lingting. there ap- peared to be a quite fresh South Easterly breeze blowing, but It seemed to have no intention of spreading over to the course the yachts were on West Wind and Penguin, however, had the cour- age of thely convictions and went off to look for it, with the result that they were soon aalling away far ahead of the rest of the feet.
THE ORDER
West Wind turned the mark first followed by Penguin, U. & 1. Azuma and La Cigale, the last named having lost heavily by go- ing too far North when nearing Cheung Chau. To the West of the island the winds were light sc
