A travelling man who had been BRITISH FOREIGN DIARY OF LOCAL

cbliged three times to take an up- per berth in the sleeping car "Aloha" has requested the Pullman company to please name the next one "Anuppab.”

"I believe business is picking up #gain."

"You must have landed some or- ders to-day."

"No. but I had several civil an- swers,"

An elderly man, but also bookish, was haled before the bar of justice In a small country town, "Ye're charged with bein' "disorderly," snapped the magistrate. "Have ye anything to say why sentence should not be pronounced?"

"Man's inhumanity to man makes coutless thousands mourn," began the prisoner in a flight of oratory, "I am not so profligate as Byron, so ungrateful as Keats, so intem- perate as Burna, 80-—-”

"That'll do, that'll do,” inter- rupted the

magistrate. "Seven

days. And, oficer, take down that list of names, he mentioned and round 'em up... I think they're as bad as he is."

A Scot lover, wishing to know his fate at once, telegraphed a proDOS-" al of marriage to the girl of his choice. After spending the day hanging about the telegraph office, he was finally rewarded, late in the evening, by receiving, an answer in

the affirmative.

"If I were you, I'd think twice before marrying a girl that kept me waiting all day for an answer" said the postmaster.

"Na, na," retored the Scot. "The Lass who waits for the cheap night rates is the lass for me."

London, Jan. 22. In 1901, when King Edward VIL ascended the Throne, he resigned office as Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge, which he had held since 1874, and became -Pro- tector of the Order. If this pre- cedent be followed King Edward" will resign office as Provincial Grand Master for Surrey, which he has held since 1924, and will as- sume the same title. Last year his Majesty was elected Grand Master Mason of Scotland, and was to be installed, on November 30, which is now unlikely.

All Masonic Lodges are it is-m- derstood, being informed that they should hold their meetings and transact their business. as urial, but that the cubsequent proceed- ings should be restricted to pure ly formal speeches without any entertainment."

The following are points from the speech: Aggression ought not to be allowed to succeed, and the members of ihe League, acting together, should be so strong and so united that they may bring it home to any aggressor, now or in the future, that peaceful negocia tion and not aggression is not merely the best, but the only suc cessful way of removing dis- content.
