The preliminary ballot, organ- ised by the Spanish, Social-demo- cratic Party in order to nominate its candidates for the forthcoming General Elections, resulted in an the overwhelming majority for Radical wing led by Largo Cabal- lero, who is widely believed to have been one of the chief instigators of the "October Revolt.

The results clearly indicates the the Communist tendencies of Spanish Social democrats as well as a decline of the moderate wing led by Besteiro.

Much indignation has been caused in Rightwing circles by the Police Ordinance prohibiting the use of electric signs for purposes of electoral propaganda. The or dinance which follows closely on the heels of the decree forbidding the broadcasting of election, spec- ches, is generally interpreted as directed against the Rightwing parties, and especially against the powerful Catholic Peoples Party, whose leader, Gil Robles, lost no time in protesting to the Minister of Interior against what is termed a one sided policy, which, it is asserted, is alming to weaken the other Bourgeois parties for the benent of the new Centre Party sponsored by the Government.—
