FASHION NOTES

What They Wear In London

A tailored sult is indispensable on a cruise, and materials which hang as well as linen and crush less are mixed linen and woollen yarns in string colour, mixtures of artificial silk and linen, and heavy all-slik tropical fabrics. Skirts of these are plain, and fitt- ed hip-length jackets with wide collars and revers are fastened by narrow belts of material, the blouses being of a darker allk with a large bow at the neck A davy-blue suit, with straight skirt and short, swing-back coat. is g fastened with white pearl but- tons; the blouse is scarlet and the baret blue with a scarlet pompon. Man-tallared navyblue and grev flannel double breasted jackets have short womanly sleeves and nited waistlines.

There are now separate loose three-quarter-length coats of cot- ton tweeds, which the multi-col- oured threads enable to be worn with any light dress. A pale-blue linen Jumper But, with a thick corded trimming, can be . worn with a square-cut loose jacket with large square pockets in mixture of blue, white, red, and grey cotton thread.

JEWELLERY AND HATS

Hamakers, in league with hale- dressers, insist upon a neater but still much curled coiffure. Curls are now set in tight colls and in groups to show a comely head or to hide a defective one. A 185- hionable woman's hair, curled, colled, lacquered, dyed, is worked to a pattern. The unfashionable either feel awkward or openly re- bel.

There

are short eulotte tennis dresses, with plain tailored tops and patch poc- kets; other divided skirta ore far- ed, gored, or pieated across the front. Printed culotte skirts worn with halter tops are to go with straight jackets of a bla'n pot- our to tone with the print.

Hand-spun and hand-woven materials are offered by Rodiers for the spring. They are expen sive, since spinning and weaving by hand is a slow process, but they are delightful to work with and beautiful to wear. The very irregularity of the weaving has charm; colourless, softly bright or brilliant, the wool is incom- ̈ parably soft.

In silks Coudurler has brought out a new taffetas; plain or figur. ed, it is soft and easy to drape, and neither rustles nor shinës. On all figured lks, muslins, crepes, and satins patterns are Oriental. Abyssinia supplies pictures, Indis the set anemones, coral, fsh; the poultry yard ducks and chickens. PLAIN MATERIALS BETTER”

It is claimed that there 15 a reaction in the Rue de la Paix against the strangely figured ma- teriais; plain materials give dren. makers more scope in cut, needle- work, use on one side or the other, opposition of colours, and the like. There is a new silk which la woven on the cross; there will be styles for all hours of the day there may be no mixing of morn- ing with afternoon and evening

Vogue takes the subject in hand in the new Issue, and gives some really use- ful do's and don'ts in a grand article called "What Every Wife should Know about men and their Clothes."
