It is thought in shipping circles EASTERN & AUSTRALIAN LINES

that this may bring the whole question of the grading of ships in the North Atlantic Conference to a head, and result in a possible re- vision of farés.

The cheaper fares in the Queen Mary have been made possible be- cause the Conference has granted the Cunard-White Star Company's application for the vessel to be classided as a "cabin" ship. The Norm.die, Bremen, and Furops are all classified, at the request of

I

It is anticipated that the owners of the Normandie, Bremen, and Europa will now" approach the North Atlantic Conference for the transference of their ships to the

cabin" category.

The question is not a new one. It arose in regard to the Manhattan in 1932, the Washington in 1933, both of the United States Lines, but the size, speed and standard of accommodation in the Queen Mary will render the problem much more acute now.

There is a possibility that the existing Conference categories may be superseded.
