A boom almost relative of the activity of the good old days' en- veloped the local market during the week under review when buy- ers of all investments literally poured into the market. The turn- over reached tremendous propor- tions and buyers predominated right up to the last minute trading. The customary old time crowds again began to gather when trading was at its height and Ice House Street once more took on the appearance of artother Throg- morten Street! The main feature was the smart rise in rates of k- vestment. counters with buyers predominating in every section, Hong Kong Electrics found a great deal of support from Chinese in- vestors and rose sharply from $70/741 cash. and $75 March. Telephones (old) showed renewed strength and were dealt in at $25.85 to $28.75. Wharves held strong enquiries at $104- cash without attracting any sellers. Dairy Farms advanced to a buying rate of $21.75. Business in Trams and Star Ferries was registered at $14.10 to $14.15 and $91/91.50 re- spectively. Minor issues generally howed up much better with Chin- ese investors again clamouring for China Lights at $11.10 cash and $11.60 March. Cements were in good demand with sales recorded from $8/9.35. Providents (old) were marked up to a buying rate of $210 at the close. Hotels re- mained very hrm and, were put through in quantity at $5.30/60 cash and $5.40/80 March with more shares wanted at the latter figure. Watsons changed hands at $4.90 with more shares wanted and Entertainments were enquired for at $4.25. Realties after being neglected for a long time
