Day And Evening Blouses

The newest evening blouses are of lame or satin, of tunic or wait" length, to be worn with slim ankle-length velvet skirts. The necklines may have draped cowls which can be made high or low by jewelled clip fastenings, or there are high-gauged necklines or yoke scarves which tie in front or back in a soft loose bow. The full sleeves are gathered on the shoulders and at the wrists. Most of these blouses are finished with are Joft crossway belts: others worn over the top of the skirt with circular or straight belted basques.

Double-breasted jackets, beltea and worn over the skirt. are and finished severely tailored

with crystal or rhinestone but-. tons; heavy satin eloques and cloque lames sult this style. Tal- lored satin jackets, trimmed with bands of padded stitching on revers and cuffs, are worn over plain sheath-like evening dresses Tailored tuntes which fasten straight up the front go with skirts of velvet or dull heavy crepe; they have narrow.. lapels and collars, fitted waistlines and set-in sleeves, and many have jewelled button. or .corded and tasselled frog fastenings. Plain and plaid taffeta's and pastel moltes make blouses with large 'puff sleeves" and 'frilled necklines; the intricacy of cut is the only trimming. Chiffon blouses, which generally tuck in to the waistline, are best in pastel shades, finely pleated or' with amocking or gaug- ing on the yokes and at the top. of the bishop sleeves.

WITH TAILORED SUITS For wearing with tailored suits in town there are alouses of heavy satin or crepe de Chine, pink- belge, ivory, or ice-alue: they show e details of hardwork in faggoting. smocking, or gauging, or of thay tucks and pleats. There are also shit; blotises of plalu tal- fetas royal blue, fuchsia, and scarlet. Fine lace blouses of - tural and pale pastel colours are finished with frilled or pleated Jabota,

For the country there are taf- lored blouses with breast pockets and fitted waletbands, trimmed with stuching: they are of heavy jersey and fannel in plain col- ours, bold lumber jack" plaids, and tiny clear checks.

COLOUR AT EVENING

PARTIES

Parties this winter have been the brighter for gully coloured dresses and sparkle in the trim- mings. Dresses of satin, velvet, lame, tarotas, chiffon, and lace reflect light. Hair ornaments are in fashion, whether of feathers, ribbons, jewels, or jewel-sewn nets of gold, silver, or coloured threads.

or

velvet and chenille lattice work. Flowers trail down a skirt or loop up a train. Long earrings go well with present-day evening dress, as du jewelled combs, pins, tiaras, and eac clips. 70.

Rich fura appeared at many Christmas parties, some were worn continuously on the shoul- a back- ders: others, formed ground, as ermine lined with sutin, lame, velvet, or chiffon, and silver fox and sable and mink were cast over the backs of chairs. Dance frocks are cut short to the dress of instep unless, as in a Bowered satin, ivory-white with a Chinese design of flowers, the long train can be looped up with a pair of alver tongs hanging" from a allver.cord at the waist.

This is a revival of the dress suspender of the late eighties. Some period frocks are worn, usually of tafetas, net, or chif Tom. "A Mainbocher dress is of orange arid pale yellow Lowered taffetas softly velled with a uni form coloured chiffon to match the ground work of the taffetas. Dresses of periwinkle blue, dull pink, pale green, pearl-grey, vio- let, silver and gold shot with col- our agree well with softly lighted- modern rooms."

Sandals are not as frequent as shoes cut with moderately high heels and made of materials to go with a dress, but they have low heels and are elaborately. worked about the instep. Gloves have not been general at Christ mas, but there are smali muff, of fine feathers, of lame" or mas ̈ ́terial zuliable to the dress; a fic-" wer muff goes well with riet or taffetas.

Spring fashions will be shown at the end of January. They will include dresses and costumes in- directly influenced by Ching and Russia, While silks and woollens may be quaintly patterned, col- ours will be quiet by day with bright flashes, In the summer "there should be a riot" of "colqur
