SILVER MARKET LOOKS TO U.S.A.
London, Dec, 21.” To-day the four bullion firmy
who make up the London silver market were taking an unusual Saturday holiday. ||
Normally they meet on six days
the
a week to "fix" the price of the metal by bringing together buying and selling orders of the day.
For a fortnight the liver market has been in bewilderment, and the price has dropped by 25 per cent from just over 2a, 6d. per ounce to under 18 104.
American Treasury policy caused this slump by the aimpic process of ceasing to offer the former price for silver and cutting down the amount bought.
As there were few other bidders,. silver, which has been held in great quantities by speculators who have no use for it except as a saleable commodity, became a drug on the market.

Will America rescue silver now Gold Rivers, of cta.
that it has slumped?
Washington message say that there is a proposal for a monetary conference to induce
China, Mexico and other silver-using countries to retain their metal re- serves instead of selling them or allowing the metal to be, smuggled on to the silver market.
London does not dare to expect that the United States Treasury will accept this proposal.
Though America must buy en- armous quantities in order to carry out her Silver Purchase Act, there Is no reason for putting the price up against herself.
All that London hopes is that the present reduced price will tempt America as being a fair one.
