In 1928 Dr. Knowles was arrested on the Gold Coast and accused of murdering his wife, formerly Madge Clifton, a music-hall star. He was sentenced to death; the Governor commuted that sentence and he was sent to England."
Dr. O'Donnell worked day and night to clear his friend's name and gain his release He drafted a Petition, worked unceasingly among members of the medical profession to get their support.
