The price for spot siver dropped ld yesterday to 201. The drop was attributed to general scling. After the oficial fixing the market was quiet with sellers predominating at the above rate. There was no forward quotation,

In America the rate was changed at 491 for spot.

The London/New," York CROSS- rate 1/8 to 4.927 and the New York/London rate was also higher by 1/8 at 4.931.

MARKET

Opened "uncertain but subse- quently steaded up. Later the market re-acted slight'y but stead- led up again towards lunch time.. STERLING

There were sellers atter the opening at 1/3 7/18, buyers bid- ading 1/3 8/18 resulting in business at 1/34 for cash and also for Jan- uary up to Chinese New Year. Offers at 1/3 were also accepted for March. Later 1/3 7/16 was arranged for February followed by transactions again at 1/3 for March, 1/3 for January and 1/3 9/16 for cash. The market closed with sellers at 1/31 for January. |1/31. for February and probably March, buyers at 1/16 higher re- spectively.

U.S. DOLLARS Opened with sellers at 31 11/18 for January with business done later at 31 for March. The mar- ket closed at 1 pm with sellers at 31 13/18 for January. 314 for February and

probably early March, buyers at 1/18 higher re- spectively.

SHANGHAI DOLLARS Sellers were quoted at 107 for spot,
