ST. JOHN SWEEPS PAY $14,482.
Ideal weather favoured the Christmas Meeting of the Fan- ling Hunt and Race. Club held at the Kwanti Course yesterday. Spill on the whale were few and far between. But in the first race Mr. Ralph was thrown off. Ids mount, Belinda, and had to be removed to hospital suffering from a broken collar bone and slight concussion. Other than this, the other spills were of s minor character.
THE FIRST RACE
The first race started at 2.30 p.m. instead of at 2 pm. doe to the late arrival of the train to Fanling, which was held up by. the midday train at Talpo. Owing to a break down. Attendance was good and dividends on the whole were moderate.
Keen interest was, evinced, in the "St. John's Cup" In con- nection, with which a special sweep was run. Daylight Eve, ably ridden by Mr. Cheape came in first. The sweep price realised $14.482.87.
Mr. W. H. S. Davis rode two winners and a second, incident- ally being the most successful, jockey of the day. Bacior on the whole was very good.
