"DICK WHITTINGTON ·

AND HIS CAT"

Provides Capital Entertainment To Large Audience

If spontaneous applause is any indication of the success of a play, then "Dick Whittington and Hu Cat" must have belonged to that category. Last night at the Euro- there were a large number of per- sons who had specially turned out to renew their acquaintance with a good old English pantomime. They all left well pleased with the fare offered.

PRESIDENT'S SPEECH Addressing the gathering the President said;

The 30th Annual Report of the

Society is in your hands.

The Report tells you that - the Annual Show of Flowers and Ve- getables which was held on the

28th. February 1935 was a great

success. You will all, I think en- dorse that. The falling off of ex- biblis to which the Committee in vites attention is regrettable and must be remedied.

I am sure that I have you all with me when I ask you to endorse on behalf of the Society as a whole the Committee's thanks to Lt Colonel Dowbiggin and the officers of the Defence Corps, to the Hon. the Inspector General, of Police, ta Captain Davis and the officers of H.M.S. Cornwall and to all others who helped to make the Flower Show a success.

IDEAL LOCATION

The loan of the Volunteer Head- quarters means depriving the De- fence Corps of its training ground for about a fortnight and la there- fore a proposition to which the Commanding Officer of the Corps cannot easily accede, especially as the Corps is now larger than it was formerly. Lt-Colonel Dow- biggin is one of the oldest and most zealous supporters of the So- ciety. He was President. In 1923 and again in 1927, Other places have, I understand, been tried but the best location for the Flower Show is undoubtedly the Volunteer Headquarters. The Society should

be and is grateful to Colonial Do biggin and the officers of the De- tence Corps for the loan of the Headquarters. I warn members of the Society that the contin- uance of this loan is something on which they can count indefinitely But sufficient for the day are the problems thereof,

The dance number of the play was carried out without a hitch thanks to the careful training by Mes Vera Volkova who W&# responsible for the dance arrange ment.

The last item on the programme was a surprise, for none other than Santa Claus appeared, imperson- ated by Rev. J. R. Higgs to delight the children with gifts.
