Will Members please do their best to keep me out of always getting into "hot water because you have not left any hot water for the other chap? ADDRESS BY THE CHAIRMAN
Touching on the subject of fin- ance, it cannot yet be claimed that the Club is out of the wood. Fur
April to months from the six September, economies were in full force and resulted in a saving of some $80,000. On the other hand,
The Secretary read the notice ocnvening the meeting, after which the Chairman asked Mr. Pearce to make his report, which was as fol- low:-
The necessary returfing of the grass track, was commenced imme- diately after the close of the first half of this year's racing season,
and I believe I can safely say the job has been well done. The whole of the track was heavy top- dressed, and I think you will agree the course has since been in first rate condition.
The cinder track was lifted and relald during the Summer.
The old log ralls on the inside course are gradually being replaced by the modern type of removable Tall Up to date about half the course has been supplied with the new rails, giving a much nester and more efficient took to the who.e of the course.
Apart from the annual painting and small renewals to the starting gates, I anticipate no further ex- penditure will be incurred on the lawns and tracks.
. THE MORNING "POWS" During the late Summer, four early morning "pows" were held for novices and potential jockeys. The numbers who participated were Very gratlly.by, and I fe sure these practices proved of much benefit.
Thanks are due to Mr. Potts who officiated at the starting gate and also to Mr. Frost, whose assistance and advice were much appreciated by the gentlemen taking part, and thanks are also due to other geh- tlemen who acted as judges and time-keepers
mornings on the when these "pows" were held.
The Club's thanke are again due to Mr. Polts for so efficiently act- ing as starter at our Race. Meet- Ines during the period under "re- View.
I have nothing further to add, except to record again that Kin- chin and the Staff at the course: have carried out their duties in a
very satisfactory manner.
THE BUILDINGS
Mr. Tester, the Steward in charge of Buildings, made his report as follows:
Just recently an alteration has Toeen made in the supervision of the Staff whose duty is the care and cleaning of these buildings. It is too early yet to judge how this supervision will turn out, but ao far I am quite satisfied it is a move in the right direction, and will äfitimately, lead to some saving of Expenses.
White ants were discovered in the weighing room, but not until a great deal of damage had been done, and had the new supervision been in existence earlier, these would have been spotted before they had gone so far. This is only one instance of what wil now be done, and which hitherto had been somewhat difficult owing to the lack of the necessary time of those of A responsible for these buildinga. Beyond the visit of these white ants, only small repairs have been called for and these mainly if the plumbing department."
The customary reports from our architecta and engineers are on the table for the inspection of any members but call for no special re- ference on my part.
HOT WATER
This theme crops up nearly every cold weather and the cold map of last week rang up the curtain on it again. Well, you have all the gadgets required to bol your selves comfortably if you will only practise a little consideration for each other. Codi aħd gun sis un- stinted and the original, boller ca- pacity doubled.
But there is one capacity' we cannot provide for nor, short, of something on the lines of a permy in the elat" machine, can your Stewards hope to cope with. The

however, there was a falling off of approximately $69,000 in our re- winue from all sources.
The results of Extra Meetings in October and November reveal a brighter picture, the proft on such meetings having increased sub stantially. The two most recent meetings proved definitely encour aging, the decline in the Club's total turnover having been stayed. atthough betting on the pari- mutuel still shows a falling off in comparison with the previous year, The results of the last Extra Meet- ing were assisted by the fortuitous circumstances of a daily doublé poci soft over” and a red hot favourite for the first half of the double but, even with this left out of account, the meeting was a financial suc
ceas.
A 'ow dollar appears të sult our public and, given freedom from outside interference, I think may justifiably take an optimistic view of the future.
