Irvin S. Cobb, noted humourist, ence remarked in giving his defini tion of comedy: "It is tragedy standing on its head with its pants torn." He amplified this epigram by explaining that most any dramatic situation can be twisted into comedy anil that all humour is based on a serious premise.

Concurring with Cobb in this, belief, Oliver Hardy, rotund mem- ber of team of stellar fuastera, Laurel and Hardy, appearing in the Hal Roach-M-G-M feature production, "Boznie Scotland,' now showing at the King's and Alhambra Theatres, remarks.

Shoot

The weather conditions which were experienced by members of the Association who took part in the usual Spoon Shoot on the naval ranges at Stonecutters on Saturday afternoon, resulted in a general lowering of scores; am over changing light, a variable wind, and at intervals, rain or mist, made vision difficult and the Spoon winners have every reason to be proud of their respective achievements.

Now that the "1914" riftes nave been received by the Army members of the Association, there is every reason to believe that the number of competitors who already shoot with the aperture sight and sling, is likely to increase to three figures, while the same type of rifle, ordered by the Association for those who wish- to own their own weapon, is expected to arrive in the Colony during the present week. In view of this, and because the NRA. Postal Match, for which the Association has entered a team re- presenting the Colony, must be shot for by the end of December, special practices are being arranged at Christmas and during the week following, details of which will be announced shortly.

The leading scores in Saturday's shoot, which was held under", the usual King's First Stage Conditions, are as follows:-
