Views And Reviews Of

The Players

(By "PIVOT")

The inclination to appeal to referves during a football game especially in the junior matches seems to be gaining grounds. This was evident in some of the games played last week. I par- ticularly noticed the Eastern-Radio encounter, in the course of which the Radio players made several appeals. With a slow and indecisive referee such a state of affairs is bound to lead tip to unpleasantness and it would be wise for the Referees' Associa- tion to remind its members of this, and to give instructions that appealling and shouting on the fields of play would not be allow- ed

Last week's results turned out very much as expected but the honour of the week went to Portugal's team, who deservedly defeated a strong English eleven in the first round of the "Sun- day Herald" Charity Cup by 4 zoals

The proud unbeaten record of ș tię by four clear, goals. If the the Police went by the board when they lost to South Chiña "B" by the odd goal in three while the Recrela was decidedly unlucky to have lost to the Club by the odd goal in fire, after having two goals disallowed against them. On the

Lincolns should provide 8. China "A with a Httle opposition but "not enough to clear bosh points. They will and in the Chinese a tough team to crack and 'with Lea Hai Tong Hadar hs men the soldiers' defence will have their hants full to keep them in check. The Gunners' teams are up against B. China "B" and Sh Joseph's Collage respectively and I doubt whether they can collect a point between' them.

The Recreo from recent displays Lave been playing as well as ever. They have about one of the fastest forward lines, and should with a Little luck do more than get away with one point,

whole the standard of play during the week-end was satisfactory.

THE PORTUGUESE, PLAYERS 'Portugal's team surprised ali critics by convincingly trouncing the English team Individually and collectively the former was shades ahead of the latter. The Portuguese boys combined to a nicety and with the defence' al- ways on top of the opposing set of forwards they had practically all their way in the first hair. B. Gosang was a tower of strength in the forward line. His schemings were always well rewarded. He had excellent sup port from "Tony" Alves on the left wing. This young latrepid player is fast making a name for *himself in ideal soccer. Hla dis- play against the English team was that of a seasoned player, alther hand are capable of extend- ing even the best team in the though, I am given to understand,
